Ghee Lamp (Neyy Vilakku) is the offering of a sacred lamp lit with pure cow's ghee before the deity. Ghee lamps burn with a pure, steady flame and are considered especially pleasing to Agasthya Maharishi. Lighting a ghee lamp at the temple is an act of surrendering one's ego to the divine light, and is associated with removal of darkness, obstacles, and ignorance from the devotee's life path.
